The control unit of all the surveillance cameras, electronic gadgets, computers and circuits was destroyed in a fire at the office block of Sri Dharbaranyeswarar temple, popularly known as Sri Saneeswarar temple, at Tirunallar near here on Wednesday. There were no casualties.

The control unit forms one of the rooms partitioned at the temple office block, which is located at the right side of the ‘dwajasthambam’. It has a number of partitions for temple staff, Superintendent and the Executive Officer.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Tirunallar, led by Station Officer M. Rajasekar, and police officials from Tirunallar led by sub-inspector Suresh, rushed to the spot. They first asked all devotees to come out of the temple even as fire-fighting personnel set out on their job.

“It is only on Saturdays and Sundays that the temple attracts a large number of devotees. Being a weekday, only a limited number of devotees was inside the temple who could immediately leave the spot,” Mr. Suresh said.

An electrical short circuit is said to have caused the fire. The Tirunallar police are investigating.
