The control unit of the CCTV cameras, electronic gadgets, computers and circuits were destroyed in a fire at Sri Dharbaranyeswarar temple, popularly known as Sri Saneeswarar temple at Tirunallar near Karaikal on Wednesday. It was stated that no one was injured in the accident.

The unit is located near the office-room which has several partitions for the office staff and the Executive Officer.

Fire fighting units from Tirunallar, led by Station Officer, M,. Rajasekar and police officials from Tirunallar, led by Suresh, Sub-Inspector, rushed to the spot. They prevented spreading of fire.

“Being a week-day, only a few devotees were inside the temple who were alerted to leave the temple,” Mr. Suresh said.

The fire service personnel fought for about one and half hours and brought the fire under control. “Being electronics cables and gadgets, there was a thick smoke all around,” the police source said.

An electrical short circuit caused the incident. The Tirunallar police have registered a case and are investigating.
