FIR registered against official

An FIR has been registered against a designated officer of Food Safety and Drug Administration on allegations of causing mental torture to a woman employee in the department.


The allegations were made against P. Dinesh, a designated officer of Food Safety and Drug Administration, by a typist, who is on maternity leave.

According to the complaint, the woman alleged that she in her pregnant state was humiliated when she sought permission to use the rest room often.

According to sources, a similar allegation was levelled against the same official by an ad-hoc data entry operator. However, she was allegedly sacked following a complaint.

The official has been booked under Sections 294 (B) (use of obscene language/act), 506 (II) IPC (criminal intimidation with weapon) and read with Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Harassment of Women Act.

The accused was yet to be arrested.
