Farmer killed in lightning strike

A farmer working in his land was killed in a lightning strike, while three others sustained injuries.

Velayutham (50), a farmer belonging to Irumbuli village near Vandavasi was working in his pulses field along with his wife Ponnammal (43), son Prasanth (18) and another person called Subramani on Thursday.

As rain accompanied by thunderbolts started in the afternoon they ran for shelter when the lightning struck them. Velayutham was killed instantly and other three sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital. — Staff Reporter
