The Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society (DPAS), Vellore, has decided to explore the feasibility of selling eatables produced by the inmates of the Central Prison for Men, Vellore through a scheme called 'Food on Wheels.'
A resolution to this effect was passed at the executive committee meeting of the DPAS held under the presidentship of R. Nanthagopal, District Collector and president of the society here on Thursday. By another resolution, the society also decided to grant a maximum financial assistance of Rs.25,000 to a discharged prisoner for his rehabilitation.
It also decided to seek an enhancement in the rent payable by the tenants occupying the office and shop premises rented by the society as per the market value.
T.M. Vijayaraghavalu, vice-president and legal adviser of the society, S.N. Janardhanan, secretary and R. Srinivasan, treasurer of the society participated.
Twenty prison officials from Andhra Pradesh undergoing training in the Academy of Prisons and Correctional Administration, Vellore, visited the society and learned of its activities.
