Manuscripts and books in Saraswathi Mahal Library will be preserved using modern technology as per the suggestions and advice given by conservation experts.
A decision to this effect was taken at the national experts committee meeting held in Chennai recently under the chairmanship of Vaigaichelvan, Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, said K. Baskaran, Collector, and director of the library, in a release on Thursday.
The Collector attended the meeting and briefed the experts committee about the activities of the library.
Earlier, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa constituted the experts committee under the chairmanship of the School Education Minister to improve the services offered by the library to international standards and make it a sought-after institution by research scholars across the world.
The experts decided to digitise all manuscripts and books in the library and computerise the catalogue of manuscripts and provide open access through a website.
Translation
During the meeting, they decided to translate the books in the library to other languages. Rare maps would be digitised and published in the form of a book. The library would take up joint research with other institutions.
