Ex-Ministers seek discharge from wealth cases

Updated - March 30, 2016 05:47 am IST - Srivilliputhur:

Former State Ministers K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran and Thangam Thennarasu on Tuesday filed separate petitions in a court, seeking discharge from the disproportionate assets cases registered against them and their family members by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) unit of Virudhunagar district.

The petitions were filed in Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here which is hearing the cases registered in 2011 and 2012 against Mr. Ramachandran and Mr. Thennarasu respectively.

The counsel for the petitioners, Veera Kathiravan, said that there were lots of inconsistencies in DVAC’s claims with regard to the known sources of income and the value of the assets of the leaders of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Similar discharge petitions had already been filed before the court for Mr. Ramachandran’s personal assistant Shanmugamoorthy, and wife of Mr. Thennarasu, Manimekalai, who were also accused in the cases.

Both Mr. Ramachandran and Mr. Thennarasu appeared before the court on Tuesday.
