Quarrel erupted between two youngsters during a temple festival about a month ago.

The incident sowed seeds of enmity between them and ultimately resulted in a murder.

Syed Noor (19) of Samathiyan Kula Street in Cheyyar worked in a chicken shop.

Anwar (22) is a resident of Pudu Masoothi Street, Cheyyar. Both had gone to the Serampattu Ellaiyamman Temple festival, which is celebrated on Kanum Pongal. A quarrel erupted between them there. Enmity brewed between them since then. Both agreed to settle the issue amicably and met at Rajaji Park on Saturday.

During the conversation Noor is said to have beaten Anwar and Anwar allegedly retaliated with a knife.

Injured

Noor sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot. Noor’s friends Appu and Imran, who had accompanied him, also sustained injuries. They were admitted to Cheyyar Government Hospital.

Police have arrested Anwar and investigations are on.
