“Encourage use of khadi products”

Collectors in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Friday and called upon the public to encourage use of khadi products to support rural weavers.

Thanjavur Collector N. Subbaiyan inaugurated the special deepavali khadi sales at the Rajarajan Commercial Complex.

During the current year, it has been planned to sell khadi products worth Rs. 44 lakh in the festival season while last year the sales achievement was Rs. 70 laklh.

Assistant Director of Khadi, S. Anandavalli, Khadi Kraft show room manager Savitri participated.

In Tiruvarur, Collector M. Mathivanan inaugurated the special khadi sales and said a sales target of Rs. 12 lakh has been set for the current year under the special khadi deepavali sales season. Though the target was Rs. 10 lakh last year, sales was to the tune of Rs. 8 lakh.

Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation Senior Regional Manager Alagirisamy, Khadi Kraft Showroom Manager Muniyandi participated in the programme.

Collector S. Palanisamy kicked off the special khadi sales in Nagapattinam after paying tributes to a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at Vanakara Street in Nagapattinam. He called upon the public to utilise the special discount being extended to khadi products and buy products at the khadi kraft show rooms. A sales target of Rs. 6 lakh has been set for Nagapattinam district for the current year festive season and he expressed the hope that the target would be met with support from the public and institutions. Municipal Chairperson Manjula Chandramohan participated.

Floral tributes, bhajans and inauguration of special Deepavali sales at Khadi Kraft marked part of Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations. Special bhajans were organised in various parts of the central district.

In Karaikal, M. Chandrakasu, Puducherry Minister for Agriculture, offered floral tributes to a portrait of Mahatma. E. Vallavan, Collector, was present.

Ariyalur Collector E. Saravanavel Raj inaugurated the khadi sales. He said a sales target of Rs. 25 lakh has been fixed for the current financial year.

Perambalur Collector Darez Ahamed inaugurated the special Deepavali sales at the showroom here. He said a sales target of Rs. 30 lakh has been fixed for the current year. Special rebate is available up to 30 per cent for khadi, polyester and silk varieties and, 20 percent for woollen goods.

Pudukottai Collector S. Ganesh inaugurated the sales at the Khadi Kraft here. He said a sales target of Rs. one crore has been fixed for the current year. The district has been exceeding the sales target in the last five years.
