An electric locomotive suffered damage after wagons of a freight train hit it while shunting at the Erode Railway Junction here on Sunday.

The incident took place at 7.15 a.m. when 10 wagons were being attached to the Bengaluru-bound freight train with 32 wagons at the goods line yard at the junction. While attaching the wagons to the train, the locomotive of the train hit the wagons resulting in the movement of wagons backwards.

The wagons hit the locomotive stationed in the adjacent goods line. In the impact, the ladder in which pilots enter their cabin, was damaged.

Salem Railway Division administration clarified that the locomotive’s ladder and six wagons were damaged slightly and there is no disruptions to the operation of train services. The division also clarified that there is no damage for tracks or other installations. “Repairs works to the locomotive and wagons were attended to by engineers and the wagons were despatched to their destinations later,” the administration said.
