Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam sharply attacked Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.K. Stalin on Saturday as they addressed a meeting organised in connection with the MGR birth centenary celebrations here.
While Mr. Panneerselvam, without naming Mr. Stalin, said the person who wanted to topple “Amma’s government” was blabbering out of depression as he had miserably failed in his attempts to do so, Mr. Palaniswami branded him a “liar” and said that he was peddling lies repeatedly against the government, which was actually performing exceedingly well in all spheres.
Mr. Panneerselvam said the working president, after becoming the president of the DMK, had reportedly vowed that he would sleep only after bringing down the AIADMK government.
“You will never sleep throughout your life as you will never achieve your dream of toppling this government that enjoys the people’s overwhelming support. If you are confident of achieving your dream, come to Thiruvarur and Thirupparankundram (where bypolls are to be held shortly) while keeping in mind that you forfeited the deposit at R.K. Nagar,” said Mr. Panneerselvam.
Slams ‘traitor’
He also came down heavily on Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran, again without naming him, saying that a traitor, who was shunted out by Jayalalithaa, was claiming that the loyalists of MGR and Jayalalithaa were with him.
After listing out the achievements of various departments and distribution of welfare measures to the needy under his leadership, Mr. Palaniswami said the AIADMK rule in Tamil Nadu had taken path-breaking steps in the fields of education, healthcare, industrial investment, employment generation and law and order and had obtained favourable orders in the prolonged legal battle in Cauvery water dispute.
He announced that the number of seats in the Kanniyakumari Government Medical College would be increased from 100 to 150 from the next academic year and radiological investigation equipment, a catheterization lab and five dialysis units, all at a cost of ₹12.74 crore, would be procured shortly.
