e-governance in Nilgiris district set in motion

Tamil Nadu is the first State in the country to put in place a separate policy for development of information technology, said A. Raja, Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology, here on Monday.

Setting in motion e-governance in the Nilgiris district, he said thanks to the policies of the State and the National Information Technology, Tamil Nadu was benefiting in many ways. Stating that e-governance was being promoted in a phased manner, he said of the 50 districts in the country scheduled to be brought under the umbrella during the first phase, six were in Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Raja said that e-governance would benefit people in every nook and corner of the district. In addition to helping the poor and the needy, the State government was keen on safeguarding the interests of the youth.

State Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna said that six districts, including the Nilgiris, would be ready for launch of e-governance in three to four months. The necessary software had already been developed.

Chief Executive Officer, Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, Santosh Babu, said that as part of e-governance scheme 1440 Common Service Centres would be set up.
