The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has undertaken 9,593 works to the tune of Rs. 142.95 crore under the Tamil Nadu Village Habitations Improvement (THAI) Scheme in the district in the last four years.
Basic facilities
The scheme aimed at creating basic facilities to all the habitations was being implemented in the district since 2011-12. Under the scheme, water supply, street lights, roads, burial grounds, pathway to burial grounds, concrete roads, and link roads, were being provided.
District Collector V. Sampath said that under the scheme, 2,754 works at a cost of Rs. 24 crore were completed in 2011-12, 1,835 works were completed at a cost of Rs. 30 crore in 2012-13, 1,693 works were completed at Rs. 29 crores in 2013-14, 1,824 works were completed at Rs. 29 crore in 2014-15, and 1,487 works were completed at a cost of Rs. 28 crore this year.
Water tank
Villagers of Mookuthipalayam in Panamarathupatty block said that after the construction of 30,000-litre capacity water tank at Rs. 7.50 lakh, they need not travel for 2 km to fetch water.
Many habitations in the district were having road facility for the first time, the residents said.
