Don't try to write off DMK: Karunanidhi

November 01, 2011 02:52 am | Updated 02:52 am IST - CHENNAI:

With the DMK completing 62 years of existence, party president M. Karunanidhi has called upon his partymen to enrol more members, while involving themselves in the work of adding new voters to the electors' list.

Ivory tower

In a statement here on Sunday, he said people sitting in an ivory tower were trying to write off the DMK, saying that it could not even become the main opposition and failed to win a single municipal corporation in the local body elections.

“But we have faced the days of Emergency. All our leaders were in jail and it was said the DMK could never recover from the crisis. But we demolished these predictions and emerged victorious,” he said.

Mr. Karunanidhi said while the media was blacking out positive news about the DMK, it was giving undue publicity to anti-DMK campaign.

“Conspirators are making an effort to destroy us. There are people who stoutly defended the party when they were penniless. But the same people try to betray the party after making a lot of money,” he said.
