Don't hike fuel prices, pleads L. Ganesan

May 07, 2011 11:39 pm | Updated 11:39 pm IST - ERODE:

BJP leader L. Ganesan has urged the Centre not to hike the prices of petroleum products as the move will lead to the increase in the prices of many other goods, including essential commodities.

Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Mr. Ganesan termed the government's move to increase fuel prices after voting was over in four States and a Union Territory “opportunistic.”

If the announcement on the fuel price hike had come before the elections, it would have impacted the outcome of the polls. But, the government waited for the Assembly polls to get over, he said, and termed the move totally unjust. Any hike in the fuel prices would be an additional burden on people. The government should not hike the fuel prices, he stressed.

Mr. Ganesan demanded a detailed enquiry into the disproportionate growth of assets of many candidates who contested the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Many ministers and sitting legislators, who contested again this time, had shown huge increase in their assets from 2006 to 2011.
