DMK members led by Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin staged a walkout from the Legislative Assembly on Friday, after Speaker P. Dhanapal declined permission for them to raise the allegation that AIADMK MLAs had been offered bribes for their support during the vote of confidence held in the House in February.

‘Digital evidence’

Soon after Question Hour, Mr. Stalin sought to raise the issue and offered to substantiate the allegations, but was denied permission to do so by the Speaker. The latter also expunged all remarks made by Mr. Stalin and DMK Deputy Floor Leader M. Duraimurugan in connection with this issue. This prompted the DMK legislators to stage a walkout. Later, addressing mediapersons, Mr. Stalin alleged that he was prevented from furnishing what he claimed was digital evidence to substantiate his ‘cash for vote’ allegation.

Even on the first day of the Assembly session, DMK members were evicted from the House on the orders of the Speaker after they protested against his decision not to allow a debate on the allegations relating to bribery of AIADMK MLAs. Congress and IUML staged a walkout.

On Thursday as well, the DMK, Congress and IUML staged a walkout over the same issue.
