‘DMK’s dream of having President’s Rule will not materialise’

Vaiko accuses the party of trying to come back to power through interim poll

Terming the demand for secret voting in the Assembly totally unjust, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko has said Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s dream of getting President’s Rule imposed in Tamil Nadu by disrupting law and order situation or returning to power through a mid-term election will never materialise.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Vaiko said Governor Ch. Vidhyasagar Rao, after inviting Edappadi K. Palaniswami to form government, asked him to seek trust vote in the Assembly within 15 days. Mr. Palaniswami came forward to prove majority within two days.

However, Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin, who initially opposed the 15-day deadline by arguing that such a long duration would pave way for horse trading, changed this stance when Mr. Palaniswami decided to get the trust vote in the Assembly within two days. Mr. Stalin, while batting for secret ballot, sought the deferment of trust vote and the House subsequently plunged into pandemonium owing to the DMK MLAs’ unruly acts.

“We all witnessed what happened inside the House when Mr. Palaniswami sought trust vote, which has brought disrepute to the Tamils. After the DMK’s attempts to attract ruling party MLAs failed, its MLAs, who entered the Assembly with the hidden agenda of triggering bloodshed inside the House, did everything they could do to ensure either the imposition of President’s Rule in Tamil Nadu or returning to power through interim election. It will only be a daydream for the DMK as Tamils will never allow such tactics,” Mr. Vaiko said, adding that huge sum was being spent to mobilise public opinion in favour of secret ballot in the trust vote.

Mr. Vaiko said he would support neither the Sasikala faction nor the O. Panneerselvam group of the AIADMK.

On the State Government’s decision to close down 500 TASMAC outlets, Mr. Vaiko said only total prohibition would ensure desired result.

He was also opposed to the Centre’s proposal to execute hydrocarbon project in Pudukottai district.
