Tension prevailed in Tiruchengode on Tuesday night when DMK cadre vandalised an RSS office and a tailor shop. Five persons were injured. Following this, over 50 members of RSS, BJP and VHP blocked the road outside the Government Hospital disrupting the traffic for about 30 minutes.

Rumours spread in the town that RSS cadre had planned to show black flags to DMK Treasurer M.K. Stalin when he visited the town in the evening over his support to Perumal Murugan for his controversial novel Madhorubhagan . Over 100 DMK cadre entered the RSS office when a meeting was in progress and vandalised it. They also damaged a tailor shop near the office.

Two RSS cadre, one rig owner, a tailor and his helper were injured.

Later, addressing the media, leaders of VHP said that though they had initially planned to show black flags to Mr. Stalin, based on the request of the police, they had dropped the plan. The incident took place around 7.30 pm when Mr. Stalin was on his way from Pallipalayam to Tiruchengode.
