Members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday observed a day’s fast across the district.

In Vellore, the fast was held on Anna Salai near the Gandhi statue.

Members of Legislative Assembly P. Karthikeyan (Vellore) and A.P. Nandhakumar (Anaicut) took part in the fast.

At Ranipet, the fast was led by MLA R. Gandhi, while MLA A. Nallathambi led the fast held at Tirupattur town. Mr. Nandhakumar said the fast was observed in protest against the proceedings in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on the confidence motion. The party was demanding that the floor test be held again.

He added that the party, during the floor test, appealed to the Assembly Speaker to go in for secret voting. “But the Speaker went ahead with the floor test and the confidence vote was moved by the Chief Minister. Later, we were denied entry into the Assembly,” he said.
