Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has accused the DMK of double standards on the Mekedatu issue.

He told reporters here on Saturday that the Chief Minister, before convening the special Assembly session for passing a resolution on the issue, should have asked DMK president M.K. Stalin to lead a delegation of DMK and Congress members to Karnataka to hold discussions with the government of the neighbouring State on finding a solution to the problem.

Joining issue with Minister R.B. Udhayakumar, who accused the Centre of not providing adequate funds to the Tamil Nadu government for relief and restoration work in the wake of Cyclone Gaja, Mr. Radhakrishnan said he was not sure if the Central team that visited the State to assess the damage had submitted its report. Once it did, the Centre would allocate fresh funds, he said.

Responding to a question on the Art of Living Foundation’s plan to conduct a meditation event at the Big Temple in Thanjavur, which was subsequently scrapped, he said he was unaware of the details of the issue but added that the sanctity of the temple should be preserved.
