District administration clarifies SC order

July 19, 2018 08:02 am | Updated 08:02 am IST - UDHAGAMANDALAM

The Nilgiris district administration has stated that the Supreme Court has only directed the District Collector to ascertain the number of “illegal” buildings in the elephant corridor in the Sigur plateau within the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. In a clarification, the administration stated that the court had directed the Collector to ascertain the number of buildings within the corridor, the year of construction and the nature of their usage, which will have to be submitted to the court on August 8.

Rumours were rife on mobile messaging applications that the court had ordered the district administration to shut down and demolish the resorts and private residences that have sprung up in the area.
