Works on dismantling shutter I in KRP Dam continued on Tuesday also when the shutter cage was removed.

The works on the dismantling of Shutter I in KRP dam went into a full-fledged mode on Tuesday, a day after the reservoir was drained fully to commence the works.

Workers were engaged in cutting out the girders of the shutter cage to dismantle the 24-feet shutter. In its wake, Collector C. Kathiravan said the shutter way will be temporarily sealed.

The shutter I will be replaced by two 6-feet high plates, sealing the shutter gate up to 12 feet. A proposal for the replacement of the shutter I will be put up to the State government, along with the consolidated proposal to replace all eight shutters of KRP dam, the Collector said.

At present, the concrete height of the spill way is 32 feet, and the shutter height is 24 feet. This allowed for the storage capacity of the reservoir to upto 52 feet.

On Tuesday, the shutter cage was dismantled, and the works to remove the damaged plate will restart on Wednesday.

According to Mr. Kathiravan, the sealing of the shutter will be completed by this week, to enable storage of water.
