Devotees draw temple cars braving heavy rain

Undeterred by the heavy rain, the Car festival was celebrated on the seventh day of the ten-day Karthigai Deepam festival in Tiruvannamalai with much fanfare on Sunday.

The five decorated wooden cars carrying idols of different deities moved along the Mada Streets with devotees drawing hem braving the rain. The first car of Lord Vinayaka began its procession by 6.45 a.m. and the car carrying Lord Muruga started its procession by 10.15 a.m. The procession of ‘Big Car’ with the idol of Sri Arunachaleswarar got delayed due to heavy downpour.

However the procession started by 2 p.m. and reached back to its position by 7.15 p.m.

Exclusively by women

The car carrying Sri Unnamulaiyammai, exclusively pulled by women and Chandikeswarar car pulled by children followed. Large number of devotees carried their children in sugarcane cradle in order to fulfill their vows.
