Detained under Goondas Act

P. Boopathi alias Manikandan (26) of Konnaiyar village, who was arrested for throwing acid on village health nurse Vijayakumari (50), was detained under the Goondas Act here on Wednesday.

On December 30, 2014, she was subjected to acid attack by two persons while returning to her residence after work at primary health centre in Elachipalayam. She suffered burn injuries in face and neck and was admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital in Namakkal. Velagoundampatti police registered a case and arrested Manikandan and his relative Narayanan and lodged them at the Salem Central Prison. Since acid attack is a heinous crime, Superintendent of Police S.R. Senthil Kumar recommended his detention under the Goondas Act.
