The Southern Railway has introduced Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rakes with toilet facility in the Salem - Vridhachalam section from Friday.

This is the first time that DEMU rakes with toilet facility have been introduced in the Salem Railway Division. The toilets are located at one end of each passenger car in the DEMU train.

Moreover, the coaches are interconnected by vestibules, enabling passengers to walk from one end to the other.

The cadre of Bharatiya Janata Party accorded reception to the train when it arrived at the Salem Town Railway Station from Vridhachalam on Friday morning.

Led by R. P. Gopinath, district general secretary, the party men adorned shawls to the pilots and guard, and distributed sweets to the passengers of the train.

Comfortable

A cross-section of the passengers, who arrived by this train from Vridhachalam, said that the journey was very comfortable. Mr. Gopinath demanded that the Southern Railway introduced similar DEMU trains with toilet facility in the Salem – Karur, Salem – Erode, and Salem – Jolarpettai sections too.
