Delivery at doorstep

There are national players and a host of regional ventures that enable the city’s residents to place orders for fresh vegetables, fruits, organic products, and grocery using the mobile phone or by going online and get these delivered at the doorstep.

Some of them have tied up with local merchants or shops and some have their warehouse. There are also city-based supermarkets that have online sales. Though online sales was the main alternate, now many players are available on the mobile platform and offer different modes of delivery – customer can collect at the outlet or get it door delivered.

Through the online option the local merchants and retailers are able to reach out to more customers, even those who are not located in the nearby areas of the outlet or the supermarket. Rather than expanding their presence to more areas in the city with more stores, they go online.

Shantha Ramaswamy of Sreevatsa Organic Farm Products says the products are delivered within four hours for those who place orders through Grofers. Sreevatsa plans to add more products that will be available on this platform. Customers who reside in far away places in the city can make use of the online option to place orders.

Chennai-based start up Orderrabbit routes customer orders through local merchants. It has provided a merchant application for them to receive and process orders. Another leading e-commerce player in this segment says Coimbatore has huge potential for sale of fresh vegetables, fruits, and grocery online. Though the response is good now in the city, it is expected to pick up with more number of regular customers who will shop online their daily kitchen needs.
