Making light of the opposition charges of the TRS of encouraging defections, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao sought to know whether any political party in the country would turn away legislators, if they were keen to join other parties.
“It is not the question of encouraging defections. In Indian politics it is a common feature,” Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao remarked during an exclusive interview he gave to The Hindu . The Chief Minister was unruffled by the hue and cry being raised by the opposition Congress and the TDP ahead of the election to six vacancies in the Legislative Council on June 1. He said: “If some legislators want to join any party, is there any party in the country, which will say don’t join our party? You show me one single party across the nation, which has not seen defections from other parties.”
AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was in city, accused the TRS of poaching MLAs by all unfair means.
