Dalit youth death: doctors inspect track

A team of doctors that conducted autopsy on V. Gokulraj, a Dalit youth whose death triggered tension, visited the railway track in South Thottipalayam near Pallipalayam on Sunday where the body was found.

 P. Sampath Kumar, Vice Principal and Head of the Forensic Department, Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai, and Gokulramanan, Head of Forensic Department, Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, visited the spot and held discussions with the police. 

The police explained the sequence of events on the day of the incident. The distance between the body and the head was measured. Blood stains on the sleeper plate near the railway electric post 383/11 was also seen and the team took samples of gravel with blood stains.

 Addressing reporters, Dr. Sampath Kumar said that the post-mortem report would be submitted to the Madras High Court on Monday. 

Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Salem Range, Vidya Jayant Kulkarni; Namakkal Superintendent of Police S.R. Senthil Kumar and senior police officials visited the spot .

 Meanwhile, the Salem city police removed 225 cadres and family members of the victim who began an indefinite fast in front of Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital . 

Led by VCK’s propaganda secretary Vanni Arasu, Gokulraj’s mother Chitra, elder brother Kalaiselvan and party cadre began their fast. However, the police removed them saying that permission had not been obtained for the fast.

Mr. Vanni Arasu demanded a CB-CID probe into the incident, a compensation of Rs. 50 lakh to the family and also a government job for Kalaiselvan. They also demanded filing of case under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
