NCSC team to submit report by this week

Scheduled Castes commision also recommended a government job and widow’s pension to the victim’s wife Kausalya.

A two-member team of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, which took suo motu cognisance of the caste murder of Dalit youth V Shankar in Udumalpet, will submit a comprehensive report to the commission before the end of the week, its state officer-in-charge, C. Chandraprabha, told The Hindu .

Besides recommending a government job and widow’s pension to the victim’s wife Kausalya, the Commission has also sought aid to help her pursue collegiate education.

Ms. Chandraprabha visited the crime scene along with NCSC investigator S. Lister on Wednesday.

The two officials also interacted with police officers and went through the First Information Report to ascertain whether preliminary inquiries were undertaken.

The Commission representatives also urged Tirupur Collector S. Jayandhi to help Kausalya continue studies in a different college.

She had discontinued BE in second year after her marriage to Shankar.
