Making it clear that the Communist Party of India (CPI) will not compromise on its prestige, respect, and rights, its State secretary D. Pandian on Wednesday said the party’s State executive would meet in Chennai on Thursday to deliberate on elections.
Stating that the alliance with the AIADMK remained, Mr. Pandian said it was for Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to clarify on the ties as it was she who had called CPI leaders Sudhakar Reddy and A.B. Bardhan to Chennai and announced the AIADMK-Left alliance after having separate talks with CPI (M) leader Prakash Karat and other leaders.
The CPI would not lose its identity just for the sake of elections and would wait and discuss the issue at the State executive meet, he said. However, he said the party would not turn back once it took a decision.
In a brief interaction with reporters after taking part in a public meeting organised by the All India Youth Federation here on Wednesday night, Mr. Pandian said neither he nor his party had received any official information from the AIADMK.
Earlier, addressing the meeting, Mr. Pandian said the CPI would not supplicate before any one and added that the party was fighting hard to bring about an alternative front at the Centre.
Mr. Pandian said he had seen the AIADMK right from the time the party was born.
