A couple died on the spot after they were crushed under the wheels of a private bus near Attayampatty here on Friday.
The police said that Karthick (29) and his wife Vijaya (31) of Pattanam in Rasipuram were on their way to attend a function in Attayampatty on a two-wheeler.
While nearing Papparapatti Lake on Attayampatty – Rasipuram Main Road, Karthick tried to overtake a lorry, but hit a private bus plying from Attayampatty – Vennandur.
In the impact, their vehicle was caught under the wheels of the bus and both died on the spot.
Attayampatty police Inspector Sampath rushed to the spot and held inquiries.
The bodies were taken to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital. A case was registered.
The couple has a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.
Man dies
In another incident, Sengodan of Rakiyapatti died on the spot after he was hit by a private bus.
The incident took place when he tried to cross the Salem – Coimbatore National Highway.
