The three-day counselling for joining the courses being offered by the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) will be held in the second week of August this year, Vice-Chancellor of TANUVAS S. Thilagar has said.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday on the sidelines of a training programme organised for poultry farmers, Dr. Thilagar said over 16,500 applications had been received online till the last date of June 10 for securing admission in the four undergraduate programmes being offered by TANUVAS.

Counselling for joining the undergraduate courses would commence in the second week of August.

While admission for ‘special category’ students would be held on the first day, the remaining two days would be dedicated for other category students.

In addition to the existing 40 seats in the veterinary colleges at Tirunelveli and Oraththanaadu, the TANUVAS had forwarded a proposal to the State Government for adding 20 more seats to take the total seats to 60.

If the nod was obtained, students’ intake in the UG programmes in these two colleges would be increased to 60 during the current academic year itself.

Moreover, efforts were on to increase the intake in the B.Tech. (Food Processing Technology, Poultry Technology and Dairy Technology) programmes of TANUVAS from next academic year onwards, Dr. Thilagar informed.
