Condemning the police action to arrest Councillor V. Deivalingam (DMK), who was allegedly attacked by AIADMK Councillors during a council meeting held recently, DMK activists blocked the road near Ponammapet Gate here on Thursday.

Mr. Deivalingam was admitted to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital after he was injured in the attack.

AIADMK Councillors lodged a complaint against him at Hasthampatti Police Station stating that he, along with his relatives attacked them.

The police went to the house of Deivalingam at Ponammapet on Wednesday night in search of him.

As he was not there, the police arrested his relative Elango.

He has been lodged him at Salem Central Prison. DMK activists gathered in strength in front of his house on Wednesday night, and blocked the road on Thursday.

They said that though cases have been registered against AIADMK Councillors too, the police have made no arrests so far.
