Council Chairperson’s charge against media persons

Journalists denied entry into council hall

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - KRISHNAGIRI:

It was high drama at the monthly municipal committee meeting here after the media persons were denied entry into the council meeting hall on Monday.

The restriction is seen as fallout of the reportage on the high drama at the preceding two monthly council meetings, where some councillors traded blows. A few councillors of the ruling party were admitted to the government hospital here following the violence.

According to chairperson Thangamuthu, the party high command had issued an advisory against allowing the media into the council hall. The presence of the media further vitiated the atmosphere.

Addressing the protesting media persons, the AIADMK council Chairperson said that the media had blown up the violent incidents out of proportion and that swayed the focus from the civic issues deliberated in the council meeting. Therefore, the party high command has issued a general advisory suggesting the media be kept out of the council meetings, the chairperson said. The council meeting was, however, wound up within 30 minutes.
