The Tamil Nadu government was maintaining a cordial relationship with the Centre to bring good schemes to the State. But politically, the AIADMK had no truck with the BJP, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and AIADMK propaganda secretary M. Thambi Durai said here on Monday. “We are not part of the NDA government at the Centre and [are] not in an alliance with the BJP now,” he told reporters at Therkku Erudhupatti village in Pudukottai district.

The AIADMK remained an opposition party at the Centre, and was working towards ensuring the State’s rights, devising ways to protect Tamil and fighting for State autonomy, he said.

Tamil Nadu was supposed to receive funds to the tune of ₹17,000 crore from the Centre. Due to the State government’s sustained efforts, the Centre had sanctioned funds as a second instalment to the local bodies, he said, adding that this was an example of a cordial Centre-State relationship.

He hoped Governor Banwarilal Purohit would take a “good decision” on the Tamil Nadu Cabinet’s recommendation to release the seven life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
