Co-optex launches organic cotton saris in Salem

Environment-friendly organic cotton saris were introduced for the first time at Thangam Pattu Maaligai showroom in the city on Saturday.

The cotton plants are grown without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides and natural dyes obtained from flowers, leaves and seeds such as turmeric, ecliptes, alba leaves, karungali wood, floral bract and annatto seeds, are used for dyeing.

The saris are woven with aesthetic designs in appealing colours with attractive border and are introduced for the first time in Salem available between Rs. 2,750 to Rs. 4,000.

Launching the product, Managing Director of Co-optex, T.N. Venkatesh, said that the new organic cotton saris focus on health as no chemicals are used and are light-weight.

He said that Co-optex has introduced 522 numbers of new designs in silk and cotton saris for the April to July season and 25 summer exhibitions were organised across the country.

“The youth market has ample opportunities and we are focusing on bringing more exclusive designs for them,” he added. He said that the online portalwww.cooptex.comhas received good response as 320 orders were received and sales were made for Rs. 7.80 lakh.

Mr. Venkatesh said that Co-optex is in talks with various online portals for selling its products and to reach more youngsters.

“During April to July last year, the achieved sales target was Rs. 28 crore and we have fixed the target for current year at Rs. 34 crore,” he added.

Also, the annual sales target for the current financial year was fixed at Rs. 350 crore, he added. K. Thangavelu, Regional Manager, and officials were present.
