The Thanjavur Cooperative Consumers Cooperative Wholesale Stores will start a petrol pump on a sprawling area in the city, said R. Vaithilingam, Minister for Housing and Urban Development.

Presiding over a function to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations of the stores here on Sunday, the Minister said that it had been planned to acquire, on long lease basis, a piece of land through the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Union. He said that it had been planned to build own building for six fair prices run by the stores in the city.

Bifurcation

Referring to the demands of the consumers, he said the fair price shops in a few places, including EB Colony I and II, Vadikara Street, and Jamal Hussain Nagar would be bifurcated as the number of cardholders was more than 1,500.

Savithiri Gopal, Mayor, S. Subramanian, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, and V. Pandarinathan, president of the Stores, spoke on the services rendered by this cooperative body.

Earlier, Mr. Vaithilingam released a souvenir on the Stores achievements since its inception.
