Contest for students

The Department of Environmental Sciences and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Periyar University will organise district level interschool and intercollegiate competitions on the topic ‘Clean Earth — Green Earth’ in connection with the Earth Day Celebrations on June 23 (preliminary rounds), and June 26 (finals).

The event is being funded by the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences. The competitions include essay writing, drawing and elocution, all in Tamil.

Groups

The competitions will be held in two groups: I: students of Standards VI — X; II: students of Plus-One, Plus-Two, and undergraduate courses in colleges.

Prizes

The winners in each group will get an award of Rs. 5,000. The second prize is Rs. 4,000, and the third prize is Rs. 3,000.

The prize winning presentations and drawings will be forwarded to the Ministry of Earth Science, New Delhi for the all India competitions.

The best presentations in each group at the all India level will get Rs. 25,000, said a press release of P. Jayanthi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, Periyar University here on Saturday.
