Consecration of Nataraja temple today

Thousands of devotees have assembled here to witness the Mahakumbabhishekam of Sri Nataraja Temple also known as Sri Sabanayagar koil to be held on Friday.

The Mahakumbabhishekam is being performed after a gap of 28 years.

The Podhudikshitaars, the hereditary custodians-cum-archakas of the temple will perform the Mahakumbabhishekam.

Special poojas and homams are being performed from April 22  led by Sri Gurumoorthy Dikhshitar, the prime acharya. On Thursday, he led special poojas at the grand yagasalai specially constructed for this purpose. A mahadeeparathanai was performed as 12th Kaala Pooja.

Chitsabha Samprokshana Chitvilasa Maha Kumbhabishekam to Sri Nataraja is being peformed between 7.a.m and 8.30 a.m. Police have made elaborate security around the temple. More than 2.5 lakh devotees are likely to witness the event.
