A Congress party meeting held here on Sunday reportedly witnessed heated arguments among some members in the presence of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram. The closed-door meeting that lasted about 30 minutes was organised at the party’s district unit office here on Sunday.

A party member said the meeting was confined only to the office-bearers of the Alangudi Assembly segment which comes under the Sivaganga Lok Sabha Constituency.

Party sources said heated arguments broke out between two groups after a couple of participants alleged that they were not being informed about the party functions. Party’s South district president Dharma Thangavel denied the charge. The exchanges caused anxious moments. The former Union Minister later left for Tirumayam.

Earlier, Mr. Chidambaram called on Congress ex-MLA Rama. Subbaram who is admitted to a private hospital.
