The State government has announced a public holiday on July 30 under the Negotiable Instruments Act on account of funeral of former President A P J Abdul Kalam. Educational institutions and government office will not function on Thursday.
The holiday announcement is applicable to shops, cinema theatres, private schools, windmills, companies involved in selling medicines, supermarkets and bakeries and they should give one-day leave with salary to their employees.
Salary should not be deducted for those who do not attend duty on Thursday and violation of the government order will invite severe action, according to V. Palanisamy, Inspector of Labour.
