Move to contain outbreak of fever in Thalarkulam

Collector M. Karunakaran visited the dengue-affected Thalarkulam in the district for the fourth time in a week to review the operations being jointly carried out by various departments to contain the outbreak of the dreaded fever.

After the dengue outbreak consumed the lives of two boys and the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital started receiving good number of patients from Thalarkulam afflicted with a “mysterious fever,” the Department of Public Health started anti-dengue operations in the hamlet, along with other departments.

Dr. Karunakaran, who dispatched a medical team and sanitary workers to the village, inspected the anti-dengue operations twice before visiting the village along with Secretary, Department of Public Health, J. Radhakrishnan on Friday evening.

The Collector visited the village again on Saturday and inspected the primary health centre at Mukkoodal. He said joint operation against the communicable disease had been intensified in the village and its surrounding areas, following the spreading of “mysterious fever” at Thalarkulam. All government departments had been instructed to work in tandem with the Department of Public Health to contain the incidence of fever by initiating multi-dimensional activities in a sustained manner.

“Six teams, each headed by a doctor from Department of Public Health, and with three sanitary inspectors, have been deployed at Thalarkulam. Additional sanitary workers from other areas have been mobilised at Thalarkulam to accelerate the ongoing operations. Precisely, more than 150 persons have camped at Thalarkulam to contain the fever,” he said appealing to the public to cooperate with the officials to make the operations a success.

After winding up the inspection at Thalarkulam, the Collector visited the PHC at Mukkoodal and interacted with the patients undergoing treatment to ascertain the quality of medical assistance rendered to them.

Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi, V. Vishnu, Assistant Collector (Training) K.P. Karthikeyan, Deputy Director of Public Health Ram Ganesh, District Siddha Medical Officer Manikathaai, Assistant Director of Panchayat Kandasamy, Designated Officer of Food Safety Karunakaran and other senior officials accompanied the Collector.
