Collector nabs a quack


A quack was nabbed during an inspection by Collector R. Nanthagopal on Wednesday. The Collector was inspecting dengue prevention and mosquito control measures taken up in Pallikonda. He had gone to inspect the works in Agaram village, Madhanur union, when it was found that a quack was running a clinic in the locality.

G.V. Baskaran (46) was running a clinic on Madhanur-Odugathur Main Road in Agaram village for several years and was treating several persons in the vicinity.

Flee from clinic

He fled from the clinic when he knew that the officials were in the vicinity, officials said.

The Collector ordered N.D. Manimegalai, Joint Director of Medical Services, Vellore, D. Renganathan, Revenue Divisional Officer, Tirupattur and A. Rathna, Tahsildar of Ambur to take steps to arrest him immediately.

Deputy Director of Health Services, Vellore K. Poonkodi and a government doctor, who was accompanying the Collector, examined four patients who were undergoing treatment at the clinic.

Later, the Veppankuppam police arrested Baskaran. Officials later sealed the clinic.

The Collector warned severe action on quacks running clinics in the district, a press release said.
