Doctors at Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital (KGMCH) have successfully done a Cochlear implant surgery on three kids free of cost.
Announcing this at a press briefing at the collectorate, S. Vadivel Murugan, Dean, said that a team of doctors did the surgery for the kids from poor background through the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
The children who had undergone surgery were two-and-a-half-year-old A. Ameer of Kadayal town panchayat, three-and-a-half-year-old P. Nishanthini of Puthanthurai and three-and-a-half year-old M. Rithish Santrino of Colachel.
The three children were born with hearing and speech impairment. The Cochlear implant costing Rs.12 lakh in private hospitals was done at a cost of Rs. 8.5 lakh through the Chief Ministers’ Comprehensive Insurance Scheme.
Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan appealed to the parents to bring their child even if they found hearing or speech impaired immediately without any loss of time to ENT specialists.
KGMCH Medical Superintendent M. Radhakrishnan and the team doctors were present during the press briefing.
