Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami paid his last respects to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in New Delhi on Friday.

Speaking to reporters here, the Chief Minister said: “He [Vajpayee] has been a great leader of the BJP government and has been a member of both the Houses of Parliament for over 50 years. He was the first to take over as Prime Minister after the BJP came to power. It was only during Mr. Vajpayee’s tenure, several schemes towards country’s development were implemented.”

He has served well by being the Prime Minister thrice. Mr. Vajpayee has been a great leader. He was a great literary personality. He dedicated the golden quadrilateral scheme to the nation.”

“On behalf of the Tamil Nadu government, I express my deep condolences to his bereaved family members, BJP functionaries and partymen.”

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai was present.
