Chief Minister and AIADMK coordinator Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday justified his party’s support to the BJP-led Union government during the no-confidence motion against the latter in the Lok Sabha last week.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Palaniswami said the people of the State had returned their representatives to the Lok Sabha for highlighting issues concerning Tamil Nadu and for the development of the State. For this, there should be “cordial ties” between the Centre and the State government.

“We are neither an ally of anyone nor an enemy,” he said, when his response was sought to the observation by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that had Jayalalithaa been alive, the AIADMK would not have supported the BJP-led government.

Explaining that the motion was related to issues concerning Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Palaniswami asked, “Did any other Chief Minister support our MPs when they stalled Parliament demanding the establishment of the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee?”
