Cleanliness campaign held

R.K. Kulsreshta, Chief Electrical Engineer, Southern Railway, Chennai, joined school students in their Swachch Bharat Cleanliness Campaign at Erode Junction, on Tuesday.

Mr. Kulsreshta interacted with passengers at the Junction and exhorted them to maintain neatness of the station premises. The senior official later determined the cleanliness and hygiene at the Electrical Locomotive Shed, as part of his inspection visit, and suggested planting of more trees in the shed.

At the Electric Loco Shed, he flagged off the 200th electric loco. The shed has been introducing innovative and cost-effective methods in the maintenance of electric locos operated by various zonal railways, he said.

Mr. Kulsreshta subsequently commissioned other facilities including pneumatic valve test bench, vigilance control device test bench, and transformer oil purification plant, that ensure better quality checks in the locos rolled out from shed after service.

Later in the day, he presented cash awards to 125 supervisors and staff of the Loco Shed, for outstanding service during 2014-15 in the presence of G.P. Saini, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Electric Loco Shed, Erode, and other senior officials.

Attur

The students of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Attur, participated in an environment protection and cleanliness awareness campaign at the Attur Railway Station on Tuesday.

About 150 student members of the Junior Red Cross, National Green Corps and Environment Protection Club of the school, led by Thillaikarasi, headmaster of the school, gave away pamphlets containing the message on the importance of maintaining the surroundings neat and tidy.Dinakar Rajan, Station Master, Attur Railway Station, and other senior officials of the Salem Railway Division, participated in the campaign.
