Class XII girl hacked to death

A 22-year-old powerloom worker hacked a Standard XII girl to death in public view in Attayampatty here on Monday evening irked over her refusing a marriage proposal.

Police said that R. Dharani (17) of Veerapandi Colony was a student of Government Higher Secondary School in Veerapandi. After schools hours on Monday, she was on her way home. A. Loganathan, a relative, intercepted her and tried to convince her to marry him. She, however, refused and started moving. Loganathan followed her, hacked her with the knife and fled.

Onlookers rushed her to a private hospital on Salem – Coimbatore National Highway where she died. Doctors said that stab injuries were found at 11 places on her body.

The body was taken to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Inquires revealed that Loganathan had earlier visited the girl’s house with his parents and expressed his willingness to marry her. However, the proposal was turned down by her parents. The Attayampatty police registered a case.

Loganathan was arrested, produced at the court and lodged in Salem Central Prison.
