In a joint initiative, Revenue, Police and Childline authorities prevented the marriage of three minor girls in different parts of the district on Thursday.

The marriage of a 15 year-old girl of Vaazhavanthi village was scheduled with a youth of Pattanam near Rasipuram on Friday. On a tip-off, the Childline members, rushed to the village along with the revenue and police officials on Thursday evening and warned the parents against solemnising the marriage. They got an assurance in this regard from the parents before leaving the village.

Similarly, the marriage of a girl of Tiruppulinadu village in Kolli hills scheduled for Friday was stopped by the officials of these three departments.

In yet another incident at Palamedu village near Tiruchengode, the officials stopped the marriage of another minor girl.

While the minor girl of Tiruppulinadu village was handed over to the District Child Welfare Committee instantly, the other two minor girls will be produced before the committee on Tuesday, official sources said.
