The marriage of a 16-year-old girl with a 24-year-old farmer was stopped by the timely intervention of officials at Kolli Hills here on Wednesday night.

Childline 1098 received information about the marriage.

A team from Childline and officials from District Child Protection Unit and Social Welfare Department visited the girl’s house at Semmedu in Kolli Hills and found preparations were on for the conduct of the marriage. The girl had completed her Class VIII and was in home for all these years. Written statement was obtained from the parents and they were asked to produce the girl before the Child Welfare Committee on Friday.
